Cyriac Elias Voluntary Association observed “International Day of the Elderly” by organizing a get-together of senior citizens residing in and around Ernakulam. The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor of Cochin Corporation Smt Bhadra B. Rev. Fr. Jose Panthaplanthottiyil CMI presided over the function organized to honor the senior citizens. Retired DMO Dr. Vijayalekshmi, the Chief Guest for the day touched upon the issues and concerns of the elderly and provided inputs to empower them. Rev. Fr. Jince Padinjareyil Secretary-CEVA, the exponent of Pranaamam, spoke about the relevance of the elders and their role in building a value-centered society. Assistant Governor of Rotary Club of Kochi, Sri. C.A. Balagopal, Rev. Fr. Jaison Puttanal and Rev. Sr. Benici FCC, felicitated on the occasion. A focus group discussion on the Issues and Concerns of the Elderly at the present time was held and views were shared by the participants. The programme was attended by more than 70 senior citizens who felt delighted at being honored and appreciated. From the views and opinions of the participants, CEVA decided to form a group of elders and meet regularly to facilitate a better existence. The attendees actively participated in the discussion and cultural programmes organized by CEVA and CIMAMS Students.
