CEVA celebrates Onam with our Gems & SHG members
“Only where children gather, is there any real chance of fun.”
Onam, the traditional harvest festival that marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali, is a festival rich in culture and heritage. Cyriac Elias Voluntary Association (CEVA) celebrated Onam “POOVILI 2015” with our Gems (Children’s Group) and SHG members. The event started by preparing the Floral carpet (Onapookalam), a work of art accomplished with a delicate touch by all our beneficiaries. The highlight of the day was the ‘Malayali Maran & Malayali Manka’ competition.
Various competitions were conducted for the children & SHG members. Both group members performed cultural programmes including Thiruvaathira & Onappattu. After the Cultural programmes, all the participants had the ambrosial ‘Onasadhya’, which symbolizes prosperity.
Afternoon session was scheduled with Onakalikal including ‘Uriyadi’, ‘Vadamvali’ etc. The winners of the following events were gifted with prizes to appreciate their performance.
- Floral Carpet (Onapookalam)
- Malayali Maran
- Malayali Manka
- Ente Onam
- Overall Championship
Of Unity and Team Spirit, the beauty of the festival lies in its secular fabric. We celebrated the festival with equal joy and verve, regardless of age. “POOVILI 2015” also helped to create an atmosphere of goodness and brotherhood by way of various team sports organized on the day. We succeeded in creating a memorable day in the lives of our beneficiaries.
“Every happy memory created for a child is another treasure for a lifetime.” (Donna Marie)
